The head of the Roskosmos state corporation, Dmitry Rogozin, offered Indian colleagues assistance in the preparation of India's first manned space mission at a meeting in New Delhi,.
India plans to launch into space a manned spacecraft with a national crew in 2022. The launch will be timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of India. The future spacecraft was called "Gaganyan" (Gaganyaan, from the Sanskrit "gagan" - heaven), that is, "heavenly ship." Russia has unique experience in space flights and conditions for better training of cosmonauts.
"In general, it would be important for us not only to prepare Indian cosmonauts, whether in the Star City or in our other centers. But it would be good to "run them" in real space. <...> We are ready to provide training for the first Indian cosmonauts to launch them on the ISS by a Russian ship, "said Dmitry Rogozin in an interview. Also at the meeting, the possibility of creating a joint satellite grouping of Russia, China and India in the future was discussed.
